USAToday’s ReachLocal team seeks modular solutions for local clients.

SUMMARY

This was a really cool contract position creating modular website templates, similar to Squarespace.

NDA: I won’t be showing any content that USATODAY/REACHLOCAL/LocalIQ hasn’t already released to the public.

ROLE

UX/UI Designer

Ideation and Validation

I didn’t have access to the users, so I built and validated my designs through my team who had worked with those end clients previously.

Modular Design

This was a practice in atomic design and not reinventing the wheel as we had a repository of modules, screens and components that had already been created and worked well for our clients.

Furhter, there were different strata of templates so some designs were to be simple, and the next strata would be highly customizable and allow for more creative customization.

The second was where I was able to innovate a little more and went through the process of mocking up, validating and iterating on original modules.

All in all

This was a really cool opportunity and I got some good experience working with the engineering team.

Had I my time again, I would have loved a hybrid or in person setting where I could bounce ideas off others more often and again, I would love to have been involved with research and testing proceedings and actually gaining access to the end users.
